What is the meaning and story behind the organisation's name?

By applying the 7R's of Sustainability in your Lifestyle you can change the Maltese culture.

How did the organisation come into being, and what was the motivation to trigger its inception?

May 2020 - The founder started by doing short videos step by step of how to apply the 7Rs of Sustainability at home and shared them on You Tube.

September 2020 - Teh founder realised that Ghar Lapsi Natura 2000 has become a dumping site and started this mission to clean it up.

What are your main targets?

Our vision is that of protecting Ghar Lapsi Natura 2000 and that we contribute towards a cleaner island.

The targets for 2024 are grouped under two key categories, each of which has a number of targets.

Enforcement and Cleanliness

  • We are targeting to finish off the cleaning of Ghar Lapsi up to tal-Maghlaq area, a process that has started off way back in September 2020.  This will be done through regular protest walks and organised walks focused on the cleaning up of the area.

  • We will work to ensure that in 2024, the area will not suffer more than one single fire, thus giving time for nature to flourish. This will be done through an educational campaign aimed at raising awareness on the dangers of cigarette butts which are thrown away. We are not excluding our involvement should any fires start off.

  • We aim to keep putting pressure on environmental illegalities, more importantly, the illegal dumping which takes place in a number of key areas. We will be investigating each time illegal dumping is identified, and action will be taken with any proof identified in the process.

Order

  • We will be keeping an eye on the area of Ghar Lapsi Reverse Osmosis, Ta’ Bellula area, as well as Tal-Maghlaq area, ensuring that all activities being carried out have the right permits.  This has already started off way back in 2023, and the concerned departments have been alerted each time an illegality was identified.

  • We will ensure a better upkeep of the area, and this will be done by reporting any requirements to the responsible authorities to ensure that work is being carried out.

Can you mention an achievement or an episode that you're particularly proud of?

The removal of 2000 black bags from a Natura 2000 site.

but nowadays this went down to 2.

What current activities/projects are currently ongoing or planned?

Continue cleaning the area from Lapsi till Tal-Maghlaq Quarry and close the valve for the environmental criminals.

5. You can help us out in our mission by joining our Cleanup Protests at Lapsi or monitoring the area.
